New Orleans and Civil War

August 31, 2005 at 11:20 pm | In the Commons, meaning in life |

My friend Rose Vines lives in New Orleans (or she did before this week) and works with Sister Helen Prejean on death penalty issues. She’s been writing about her experiences at omiyar.net. You can donate directly to help Rose and her partner here. Others there have also been discussing looting and such. Then I read Chris Corrigan: I just heard a report that a New Orleans hospital has been taken over by people with guns. I don’t get it. The tendency towards civil war seems to lie so close to the surface. What would it take for us to have a full-scale civil was in the US? Doesn’t seem like it would take much.

  1. The talking heads and demagogues have been pushing it, hard, for a long time. The rhetoric of betrayal and treason from the winger pundits keeps everyone plugged into the media borg very edgy.
