Humanize the Earth!
Evolutionary weaving of the threads of life
social map
April 11, 2006 at 11:13 pm | In technology, humanize, friends |I think this is cool as heck! The resolution isn’t that great here, so click the image to see the original at CommunityWiki if you like. I love the idea that we’re starting to be able to see not just the social networks consisting of individuals, but also the communities where those individuals interact. If you’re inspired to create a map like this starting at one of your communities, put a link in the comments and I’ll publish the image here as well. In fact, CraoWiki has one now too.

Beautiful & fun! Like expanding the view to see the wide ground between the peaks or under the sea between the “islands”
Since it’s a social map and from the Community Wiki, I guess it was made by a group of people adding together? If so, does that mean that it’s a simple thing to make a mind map on a wiki? I have a mind map program on my own computer, but haven’t ever used an online version.

Well, no, actually. It’s not easy to do a mind map on a wiki. I think this drawing was done using inkscape and various people uploaded various versions of it until this one was more or less deemed to be the “April version.” There are people working on an SVG wiki that would allow the drawings themselves to be edited in wiki fashion, even showing differences between revisions.
So in other words, this was done manually, not with any mind-map software.

This is very cool. Did click on the map and it took me to community wiki but the page I came to was empty.

Did you scroll down? Sometimes the image is too wide for the sidebar and shows up down lower.

It appears now! Thanks for the scrolling down tip :^) It’s an amazing map.

Do you know anyone good with visual stuff? We could do a map like that for EFN. And then add to it as we grow. That’d be cool.
